The Story of .US
Stories behind the domain
In 2013, Recovering the Classics asked designers from around the world to reimagine covers for great books in the public domain. 50 classics in 50 states. Hear the story behind the project here.
Jennifer 8. Lee is the CEO of Plympton, a literary studio which does a lot of cool and interesting projects at the intersection of publishing and innovation. Her team is responsible for launching this crowd sourced campaign in 2013 and has since received thousands of submissions from across the country for books such as Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
They started the campaign with a goal of showing 50 covers in all 50 states and wanted people exhibiting at their local library, school or college to feel like they were a part of something greater. Hence the campaign name 50x50.
Why they chose a .US domain?
"We think that everything can be done as a team, and everything has to be done as a team to be successful and "us" embodies that."
